Congratulations to Stark County Community Action Agency’s Schanel Harvey on her recent promotion to Director of the agency’s Pathways Community HUB. The HUB, funded by the Ohio Commission on Minority Health (OCMH), focuses on addressing the high rate of black infant mortality.
“Stark County is a hot spot for black infant mortality, to be blunt for every white baby that dies before the age of one nearly three black babies die before the age of one,” Harvey said. “The CAPHUB is committed to making sure that every baby celebrates their first of many birthdays.”
The Stark County CAPHUB serves between 75 and 125 individuals at any given time, Harvey said. She had previously served as the HUB’s Clinical Coordinator/Quality Assurance building relationships in the community while reviewing data. Her replacement in that position will report to her along with the Data & Compliance Specialist.
With Community Health Workers (CHWs) employed by Care Coordination Agencies (CCAs) in the community, the CAPHUB connects pregnant women and newly parenting families to needed services, resources, and tools. This allows the CAPHUB to address the social determinants of health and racial inequities that impact their overall health outcomes and well-being.
Harvey has 10 years experience in the non-profit space advocating and building relationships. She has been with the SCCAA since January 2019.
“I truly believe in the CAPHUB program and model,” she said. “I am excited to build the CAPHUB team and explore new opportunities to grow and expand how we implement the model.”
Congratulations, Schanel!
