Sept. 12 ROMA Training Will Be In Person

OUCAN will host an in-person ROMA Training September 12 in Columbus beginning at 10 a.m.

The complex nature of this topic led OUCAN to change from an online event to an in-person event, limited to 50 participants.

"We want everyone's questions to be answered and meeting in person gives everyone a chance to learn from one another," said OUCAN CEO Yvonne Cherell.

The change also means the training will cost participants $100. This covers course materials, lunch and other costs, Cherell said.

IMPACT Community Action Agency will host the event and both trainers are employees of the agency.

IMPACT Vice President Teresa Gary will be one of the two trainers for OUCAN’s in person ROMA Training on Sept. 12 in Columbus.

Teresa spearheads IMPACT’s Youth and Empowerment Services departments, bearing operational responsibility for all workforce-related program areas. Among her many efforts, Teresa has led the successful coordination of work readiness services for formerly incarcerated individuals.

Teresa is a graduate of the University of Akron currently pursuing her MBA. She is also a valued member of the OUCAN Roadmap Team and is passionate about making a difference in both her professional and personal life.

IMPACT Vice President Shameikia Smith will be one of the trainers at OUCAN’s in-person ROMA training on Sept. 12 in Columbus.

Shameikia has worked in social services in Columbus for more than 18 years. She currently serves as the Vice President of Housing Programs at IMPACT. Throughout central Ohio, Shameikia has participated in multiple community efforts to impact child welfare and homelessness. She has received multiple awards for her work with the Community Shelter Board and the Columbus Homeless System.

Shameikia holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work from Ohio State University. Her greatest passion is serving people by being a voice for those who have been unseen and unheard.

The training will be held at IMPACT’s offices located at 711 Southwood Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43203.
